Playtech Casino Review
Playtech is the one you have been using without knowing it. Not just the games, either. The lobby you are browsing, the account you logged into and the wallet holding your balance are very often Playtech too, including a good chunk of what sits under Gala Casino.
That makes them tricky to review, because half of what they do is invisible. You play the games, but you never see the machinery running the site around them.
Who They Are
Teddy Sagi founded Playtech in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, pulling together a team from casinos, software engineering and multimedia to bring the magic. Estonia in 1999 was not the obvious place to start an online gambling company. The company listed in London and now sits in the FTSE 250, trading as PTEC. Aristocrat had a go at buying them in 2021 and shareholders voted the deal down in February 2022, so they have stayed independent since.
The bigger recent change was selling Snaitech, their Italian betting business, to Flutter for €2.3 billion. That completed in April 2025 and paid out a whopping €1.8 billion special dividend to shareholders that June.
How the Games Run
Most players never think about this bit, but it is the main event for Playtech. Their IMS platform runs the account systems, bonusing, payments and back office for a long list of operators. When somebody describes a site as "a Playtech casino", that is usually what they mean, rather than a lobby stuffed with Playtech games.

Playtech have taken a different route to Evolution on live gaming. Fewer titles, but more money spent on each one, and the licensed shows are where this can be seen the most.
Adventures Beyond Wonderland Live is the clearest example. Hosts are dressed up in full costume, sharing a revolving studio with animated characters, using augmented reality to put the two in the same shot. It won Gaming Product of the Year at the 2023 American Gaming Awards and it still looks like nothing else in the lobby. Wonderland Lucky Ball takes the same world and runs it as a ball draw instead.
Jumanji: The Bonus Level Live pulls the same trick with the film licence, building the board game structure into how the bonus rounds resolve. Family Feud Live from Las Vegas runs the TV format properly, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Roulette bolts the quiz show onto a live wheel. Deal or No Deal The Big Draw uses the banker mechanic in a lottery style draw.
Buffalo Blitz Live Slots is the strange one, and worth trying for that reason. A host spins the reels of a slot and everybody in the session gets the same result at the same time. It should not work as well as it does.

Playtech or Evolution?
Gala runs both, and you will notice the difference straight away.
Evolution has more tables, more variants and more original game show formats. If you mainly want choice, that is where the choice is.
Playtech go narrower and spend more per title. The licensed shows are better produced, the augmented reality work in Wonderland is mindblowingly ahead of anything Evolution have ever attempted, and Playtech have the jackpot network running across their games, which Evolution do not do at all.
