Mega Bars

If you're like me and enjoy spinning the reels on a good old-fashioned slot from time to time, you're going to love this game. Mega Bars by Blueprint Gaming is the online version of an old, mechanical slot machine, and it recreates the playing experience perfectly. So much so that I kept reaching up beside the computer screen to pull the lever!

One thing that's not quite traditional about this slot is the grid. Instead of the 3x3 with one payline like the one-armed bandits of old, Mega Bars has a 5x3 grid with ten fixed paylines. It also has another essential feature of modern slots, adjustable bet levels. But the betting range itself is pretty low, from 0.10 to just 20, meaning that the line bet, which wins are calculated from, can be between 0.01 to 2. This, combined with medium volatility, means this game is better suited to the casual player. 

The simple and uncomplicated retro style of the slot means there's nothing to distract you from the gameplay except for some flipping coins in the background.

The minimalist retro design has been carried over to the symbols on the reels. You won't see any animated character symbols here, and not even the usual card ranks. In fact, there are only four symbols in total appearing.  

These are a Bar, which awards a maximum of 500 x the line bet for five. Then there’s an X, which awards a maximum payout of 50 times the bet for five.  

These are the paying symbols, and there are two more, the Free Spins symbol, which awards 3,4, or 5 Free Spins for combos of the same.  

The big round O doesn’t do anything except take up space on the reels to stop players from forming wins. 

The Free Spins trigger when three or more Free Spins symbols land, and start with the same number of spins as Scatter that triggered it. This seems a pretty measly amount, but the good news is the Free Spins can retrigger during the round, and an extremely lucky player could end up spinning for free 50 times.  

And like I said, this is a minimalistic game, so that's it for the Free Spins, no special wilds, expanding reel, or other different features. Just straightforward slot action and the chance to win some cash without risking your own. 

Mega Bars from Blueprint Gaming is a replica of the land-based slot machine. It's not for those who want all the excitement of random bonuses and progressive Free Spins rounds. But for those wanting a simple retro-slot playing experience, this is the slot I would recommend. Just remember, responsible gambling is the name of the game.
